Rainbow River Drift Dive

July 16, 2017

$75.00

How will we ever make it through the week? We’re headed to Rainbow River where we can see Florida Gar, turtles, bowfins, freshwater shrimp, bass snails and more!

About Rainbow River: Rainbow River is a spring-fed 6-mile river in Dunnellon, Florida about 20 miles southwest from Ocala. Several vents within the spring pump roughly 400 to 600 million gallons per day into the river. According to therainbowriver.com, this destination has attracted and sustained humans for more than 10,000 years. The bottom consists of limestone and fresh vegetation, attracting an abundance of marine life including birds, fish and reptiles.

Dive Plan: Meeting at KP Hole Park located just off the river, we will depart on a pontoon boat that will drop us off upriver and we will drift back to the dock platform. The depth is consistently under 10 feet, which makes this the perfect place to practice buoyancy and with a steady current, is considered a very mild drift dive. There are parts of the river that get to 25 feet where vents pump fresh water upward. The constant flow of water makes this dive relatively crystal clear and there are times when the native cormorants will dive alongside you for miles searching for fish.

Gear: This dive includes the boat, divemaster, flag/float and one free air tank rental or fill and we have several gear packages available for any gear you may need to rent.
