Rainbow River Drift Dive
October 6, 2020 @ 9:45 am - 1:30 pm
Join us Tuesday, Oct. 6 for a drift down one of Florida’s most-beautiful rivers, Rainbow River, a protected first-magnitude spring located in Dunnellon, Florida.
The diverse wildlife we have encountered includes: musk turtles, yellowbelly sliders, Florida cooters; freshwater shrimp, apple snails, cormorants who will dive in with you, Florida bass, gar and spotted gar, bowfin fish, a variety of catfish, freshwater mussels and more!
The cost of the trip is $65 which includes the boat fee, a divemaster-led tour and flag float and one air tank rental or fill. We will also cover the $5 parking/wrist band fee that goes towards park funding. Pair this with a Fish ID course and get 20% off of the course! This is also a great start to your advanced course!
Prior to the Trip:
If you are renting gear, please gather it prior to the 7th including your free tank rental. The water will be warmer than the air! (always 72 degrees) and will require a warmer wetsuit. We usually recommend a solid 5mm suit depending on your comfort. 5mm usually require more weight so, plan accordingly.
We will plan to meet at 9:45 a.m. at KP Hole Park located at: 9435 SW 190th Avenue Rd, Dunnellon, FL 34432. We will gather near the park sign and set up one tank with your gear. We will go off of a pontoon boat but won’t return to the boat. Instead, we will drift down the river and meet back at the boat ramp where we started.
This is the perfect spot to practice drift diving and buoyancy, as the water is relatively shallow (10 to 20 feet).
Safety and fun are our primary concerns! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
