Hospital Hole is located in the third bend south of Roger’s Park on the Weeki Wachee River. The name Hospital Hole comes from a local legend where supposedly injured fish came to this site to be healed of parasites before returning to the sea.

The main hole is roughly 150 feet in diameter and reaches a depth of 135 to 140 feet. Between 70 and 80 feet, there is a thick layer of hydrogen sulfide that blocks most of light below it. Below the layer, visibility is usually very good. A few flowing springs sprout from the wall around 70 feet, just above the hydrogen sulfide layer. We often see manatees in the shallows of this hole and have seen some mother manatees with their calves.
