Hospital Hole is located in the third bend south of Roger’s Park on the Weeki Wachee River. The name Hospital Hole comes from a local legend where supposedly injured fish came to this site to be healed before returning to the sea. The main hole is roughly 150 feet in diameter and reaches a depth of 135 to 140 feet. Between 70 and 80 feet, there is a thick layer of hydrogen sulfide that blocks most of light below it. Below the layer, visibility is usually very good. A few flowing springs sprout from the wall around 70 feet, just above the hydrogen sulfide layer.
