Venice Shore Dive | Fossil Dive
December 6, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join for a fun day of fossil diving for shark’s teeth, megladon teeth, bones, stingray barbs/teeth, pufferfish platelets, tapir molars, and more! Venice Beach is the self-proclaimed, “Shark Tooth Capital of the World!” Cost is $65 and includes a tank, flag float and divemaster-led tour.
Ten million years ago when Florida was underwater, the area was surrounded by sharks. When the land was eventually uncovered, so was their teeth. Storms and waves eventually pushed the fossils along the coast from rivers and other freshwaterways and onto the beach and into shallow waters with a fossil layer running 18 to 35 feet deep. The inlet near Venice shore is a prime location for fossil diving because of the freshwater rivers that empty into the inlet.
Adventure Outfitters has found hundreds of sharks’ teeth fossil diving, ranging from bull sharks, to lemon sharks, to hammerheads, to tiger sharks, to megladons! We also have found rare prehistoric horse teeth, dolphin teeth, and rostrum spines. While collecting teeth, you may also come across baby bat fish, sea robins, lizard fish and sea hares. We have even spotted manatees along the shoreline!
This is an easy dive – great for beginners – and will be at a depth at about 18 to 25 feet. The trip includes a divemaster guide, buoy, a goodie bag, and a air fill/tank. If you wish to pair this trip with a course, Adventure Outfitters will provide a 5% discount on the course. This is a great trip to pair with peak performance buoyancy!
If the dive is cancelled due to weather, the trip will be rescheduled.
